What is the Safety Centre?

The Safety Centre is where Tata Steel ID badges are issued. At this centre, everyone takes the safety test that is mandatory for performing work on the Tata Steel site in IJmuiden.

Where can I find the Safety Centre?

The Safety Centre is located at gate Rooswijk.

    For navigation system: Breedbandweg • Turn right at the Wenckebachstraat/ Breedbandweg junction • After approximately 300 metres, you will see the main entrance gate Rooswijk

What is a day badge?

Day badges are issued only to visitors and suppliers and are requested by your Tata contact person.

NOTE: A day badge does not allow you to perform any work or to access the factories!

Urgent requests

Urgent requests are submitted by the Tata Steel client to the Safety Centre by e-mail. E-mail address Safety Centre: DBBtoegangsverlening@tatasteeleurope.com

How long in advance do I have to arrive?

As a company employee, you arrive at least half an hour before the test appointment to enable registration with your documents. For Tata employees, this information is known, fifteen minutes before the start is sufficient.

What if I’m late for my test appointment?

If the candidate is late for the reserved time block, the candidate will have to wait until there is room in one of the next blocks in the agenda.

When can I take the test?

One can join the test by appointment on Mon to Fri, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. No intake is possible during the last block (after 15:00)! Resits in the last block are not possible. Resit can be done the next working day from 6:45 AM. For all other matters, the Safety Centre is open from 6:00 AM. to 5:00 PM.

To prepare for the test, one should follow the E-Learning.

Can I just drop in for a test?

No, we work by appointment. After you have done the E-Learning, you can schedule an appointment for the safety test in the Safety Centre Agenda. 

Validity of test

The security test is valid for a maximum of two years. You must always be aware of the specific risks on the Tata Steel site in IJmuiden, which is why you must repeat the instruction every two years.

Why is my badge only valid for one year?

The safety test is valid for a maximum of two years, the validity of the badge will be issued until the shortest running date on the documents supplied. If this is less than two years, you can renew the badge (up to the end date of the safety test) without having to take the test, by coming to the Safety Centre and physically taking all documents with you. In that case, you do not have to make a reservation in the Safety Centre agenda. You can request information about the validity by e-mail at: DBBtoegangsverlening@tatasteeleurope.com

Which documents do I need to bring to the Safety Centre?

  • As a Tata employee, your ((almost) expired) Tata Steel ID badge. 
  • As a new employee, HR and Passport documents, ID or Dutch residence document (no driving licence)
  • As a company employee, you must physically (on paper) bring the following documents:
    • NL Application form Tata Steel ID badge (Employer’s declaration is included)
    • VCA certificate
    • Passport, ID or Dutch residence document (no driving licence)
  • As a freelancer also:
    • Recent extract from the Chamber of Commerce (no more than three months old, stating natural person)
    • A VCA VOL diploma is required for freelancers

What is a BIN?

BIN is a Dutch abbreviation for company identification number. To apply for a Tata Steel ID badge to work at Tata, the company you work for must be registered with Tata and have its own BIN.

Where can I ask questions about obtaining a BIN?

Are you a contractor and do you have questions about BIN?

Only when your company has a BIN (Business Identification Number) can your employees apply for an access pass for the site.

In which language can I do the e-learning?

The E-Learning is available in 18 languages and anyone can do it in the language that is suitable for the participant. For Tata employees, the E-learning in Peoplelink is available in Dutch and English. For other languages, you can use an external learning environment of Plusport

Is the E-Learning mandatory?

Yes, to be able to take the safety test, you must be informed in advance about the specific risks, hazards and measures that apply at Tata Steel in IJmuiden, as the test will ask you about these

I don’t have access to a computer

The E-learning can also be followed on a smart phone or tablet.

I don’t have access to Peoplelink

You can use an external learning environment of Plusport. You register to access the E-learning through the registration form registration form. You can find the E-Learning at Plusport learning environment.

How often can I do the E-learning?

The E-Learning can be used indefinitely to gain the knowledge needed to pass the Tata Safety Test.

When can I do the E-learning?

At any time that is convenient for you prior to the test.

In which application can I do E-learning?

Use the latest version of Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome or Safari for optimal functioning of the training modules.

In which language can I take the security test?

The test is available in 18 languages and anyone can do it in the language that is suitable for the participant.

How many questions are in the test?

The test has 27 multiple-choice questions. 

How long does the test take?

The safety test takes an average of 25 minutes.

When do I pass?

The test consists of 27 multiple-choice questions about the nine modules (the same as the E-Learning). There are three questions per module, all three questions must be answered correctly. If you make one mistake, you get a maximum of four resits. If you fail, you will sit the full test and you can try again. If you still fail, the Safety Centre employee will discuss the next steps with you.

Do the questions also concern VCA?

Tata Steel only works with VCA and VCU-certified companies. The questions are about E-learning and not about VCA knowledge.
